Smart Taxes Submission on National Renewable Energy Plan

Smart Taxes has sent in a submission on the National Renewable Energy Plan, which was up for consultation. The general criticism is the document’s failure to consider restructuring energy generation to encourage, or even allow, mid-level energy generation at the community level.

Large-scale wind developers have succeeded in persuading the government to prioritise their interests in the NREAP in other words, to divert scare resources to an obsolete model. This policy will starve investment from smaller scale energy embedded generation that does not have the same requirements for radical comprehensive grid upgrade.
